Welcome to falseconsiousness.co.uk, which has been set up by Edward Lud.
Edward is a lovely chap who is sometimes kind to small children and quite often to animals, too. Even some of his friends nearly like him. He has had a varied professional life, although he has only just stopped being almost young, incorporating politics, finance and the law.
Ned's problem - and here we get to the heart of the matter - is that he has made the mistake of living in London, Engerland, in the present day.
And he is fed up, to the eye teeth.
Fed up with being surrounded by eight million brainwashed townies all of whom think Michael Moore is a paragon of sincerity and veracity (see davekopel.com), that socialism is a moral cause and that its antitheses are automatically tawdry and evil. Ned feels these attitudes are all around, subtly pervasive sometimes, overtly dominant on other occasions.
But what really niggles, burrows under the skin as it were, is that this bloated legion of same-thinkers all imagine they are being terribly original and free-thinking. In fact not only are they of course the Establishment, but they mostly react to challenges to their thought with outright Blimpishness. To disagree is to be a deviant. Surely every civilised person knows what to think about fox-hunting/the free market/human rights/Kyoto etc.?
And Ned - pity the poor chap if you will, as you might have done a starving-in-exile V.I.Ulyanov 100 years ago - is sick of not even being able to listen to the television or radio news without wanting to kick said instruments in fury within 30 seconds of switching them on.
Quoting from memory, there is a tide in human affairs which, if taken at the flood...etc. etc. In other words, vive la revolution!
And now Ned's nurse, Olga, is coming to administer his injections.
